“Rainbow Light Field” was created in 2005 as a public art project for St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. It was exhibit on a large video wall in the hospital’s lobby. This work takes off from the 2D Photofield series of large photographic arrays that Barnard has been making since the 1990s. It is intended to be a sort of enhanced Photofield with the dimensions of time and sound added. The soundtrack and some of the video imagery is taken from a live performance by Barnard of his original, improvisational acoustic guitar music.
